Determinate Tomato Plants Are the Prefect Choice for Containers.

There is nothing quite as delicious as a home grown tomato. The flavor when you bit into them is blissful and nothing at all like a store bought tomato.
But tomato plants can take up quite a bit of room. The vines can grow to 10 feet tall and need staking. Not really the project for someone with a small garden and little time.
The answer is to grow the determinate variety in a patio tub. Determinate tomatoes, or “bush” tomatoes, are varieties that grow to a nice compact height. They usually get to about 3 – 4 feet. They will stop growing when fruit sets on the top bud. All of the fruit on determinate tomatoes ripen at approximately the same time (usually over a 1- 2 weeks period). They require a limited amount of staking for support and are perfectly suited for container planting. Mine are already producing fruit for this season, and my bigger indeterminate ones are all still green.

Great information, Carol! I'll bet some folks did not realize there were different types of tomatoes as well as varieties!
