Do I have to varnish the whole wood floor?

Janet Pizaro on May 28, 2016Honestly the floor will not look even if you just varnish one section. I would talk to a reputable sales associate at your local paint store so the appropriate sealer is chosen and applied correctly.Helpful Reply

Sandra Hellewell on May 29, 2016I know it's probably not what you want to hear but they are costly oak floors and it would be a shame to mess them up trying to fix a few spots. I would suggest you sand, stain and have varnish or poly applied by a professional. They will look great and last a long time! If you're going to do something, you might as well do it right the 1st time!! As @Janet Pizaro suggested you would be wise to consult a professional first so you can make an informed decision.Helpful Reply

Jeanette S on May 29, 2016I agree with Sandra Hellewell...let a professional varnish...it will be great for years! Or buy a big rug and cover it!Helpful Reply

Johnchip on May 29, 2016Hate to say, but I agree with everyone who says, "Do it right". Get a couple estimates (with references and pictures of their work), you may be surprised. I had my entire first floor (4 rooms) completely redone for under 2 thousand and it made it a new home, got every penny back in happiness and resale!Helpful Reply

William on May 29, 2016I agree with everyone here! Just finishing the spots would look splotchy. It would be hard to get a good match. The whole floor would need to be sanded and finished. A professional would know how to do the job correctly.Helpful Reply

Kathy Bitzan on May 29, 2016If they are the real wood it is so worth the time to do it right. It's not like the flooring they pawn off on everyone today.Helpful Reply

Faye Campbell on May 29, 2016Sand entire floor . Do all edges with an edge sander first. Rent a commercial sander to do the body of the floor.Sand lengthwise and then widthwise.Helpful Reply

Colimbia1 on May 29, 2016Agree also. I did the same as you and the floor had dark spots, etc. When they finoshed the sanding and the varnished it it was beautiful. Also would give you the opportunity to change the stain of you wish. Get recommendations. Just because someone says they can do it "don't make it so." I contacted a carpet store that I knew had a good reputation and they found someone for me. Good luck with your floor. I love my hard wood floors!Helpful Reply
