DIY Wall Art With Scrapbook Papers

You can use 12x12 scrapbook papers in coordinating colors and patterns to make a grid of squares for inexpensive, large wall art. This is the most popular post on my site! I hope lots of people have tried this in their homes, it's an easy and fun DIY project. Check it out ...
You simply start with a wood board ideally 12" x 12" because that's the size of most scrapbook papers. You can cut wood to that size very affordably. Then, apply Mod Podge to the wood, and then apply scrapbook paper. Smooth out any wrinkles and bumps. It works better to use thicker scrapbook paper. Thicker paper tends to wrinkle less. Then you can apply another coat of Mod Podge to the top of the paper (I like matte Mod Podge) or just leave the paper as it is.
Edited to mention: A lot of people have struggled with wrinkles with Mod Podge. Since doing this post, I've found that Aleene's Tacky Glue results in less wrinkles. It's more tacky and less wet. So if you're having problems with wrinkles in the paper, try Aleene's Tacky Glue.

Dani Lewis on Mar 06, 2017could you not just use a blank canvas to glue the scrapbook paper to instead of the wood?

Deb @ NomadicDecorator.com on Mar 06, 2017Hi, yes, absolutely you could. You can even find 12x12 size canvases in lower-priced value packs at craft stores. I show a few alternatives to the wood boards in my blog post: http://nomadicdecorator.com/2011/11/10/wall-art-with-scrapbook-papers/
