Several months ago I was checking out my hometalk.com page and found a new product called UnicornSpit. I loved the project and followed the links so I could get some. Imagine my surprise when I found the product is made in the USA and better yet in Kansas City where I live! A quick drive took me to Michele's doorstep (the inventor) and I was blown away getting to see her many completed projects
After being totally inspired by her galaxy technique I was off to my local thrift store to purchase an item. As I wondered around the store I was drawn to the table of old brass lamps and candlesticks. They looked so sad sitting en mass on table after table. The price was right ($1-10.00) so I loaded up and headed for home with my great finds!
I used a soft foam brush and coated my lamp with a "thin" layer of mod podge and let dry. Then I placed small pools of Spit on a paper plate and went to work dabbing my spit all over the lamp. I wanted to separate the colors on the lamp which was easy to do. I let the spit dry and then went back and layered my other colors. I was very pleased with the brightness of the colors and the ease in mixing colors. The spit is water soluable and has a jasmine smell
After I was finished with spitting my lamp I went in with the gilding wax and placed a small gold highlight between the different colors. The project was complete with 5-6 coats of poly spray. Because the spit is water soluable you need to use an oil based sealer. The colors are very bright and the finish resembles cloisinne. I hope you enjoyed reading about my project and will checkout this great product. It is great for kids and was originated as a form of art therapy.
Enjoyed the project?
