Make a Gourd Lamp From a Pom Juice Bottle

I had a pair of very plain lamps but was dying for some gourd lamps. When I saw the shape of the Pom juice bottle in the grocery store, I saw a DIY in my future.
First, I cut the neck off the juice bottle, being careful not to dent the plastic. Then, I carefully cut along one of the bottle's natural seams from the neck all the way down to the bottom and then to the center of the bottle's bottom side (where there is a small indentation). Do not cut the bottle completely in half!
I then used clear tape to bring the cut sides together again. It doesn't look so nice now, but just wait...
Next, I taped the cord and socket off completely with painter's tape and painted the whole thing with white gloss spray paint.
So I bought a "tip toe gasket." Whoever knows what that is gets bonus points. I basically just looked through the specialty plumbing fittings for a round rubber fitting that would cover that gap. This one fit the bill.
You can see the gasket here. It was black, so I spray painted it gold, cut a slit in one side, slipped it on and hot glued it into place.
Here's the before and after of my lamp. And yes, it does look shorter because I adjusted the height of it to accommodate the height of the Pom bottle.

Gene on Aug 08, 2016I wonder is why they just didn't take the lamp apart instead cutting the bottle & tiptoe gasket into and then gluing them back together.
