What To Know Before Painting Furniture a Bold Color

Bold colors can really add a new level pizzazz to an old, tired piece of furniture. Bold colors can brighten up a “blah” room. Furniture painted with color can help tie in patterns and designs from fabrics and pictures on the wall. Colors are fun!
Just know beforehand though, that there are a couple of downsides to painting furniture with bold colors:
1. Harder to Sell – Furniture pieces painted with bold colors can take longer to sell, if you do decide to sell your furniture piece down the road. In our experience, neutral colored pieces of furniture sell quickly and pieces painted with color sell much more slowly.
2. You Might Tire of a Color – At first you may be excited about a new color, but a year or two later, tire of it and wish you had chosen something neutral. But, not a reason to avoid it, you can always add a new coat of color over it. It’s just something to keep in mind.
3. Tough to Match to Decor – Pieces of a certain color may be hard to tie in to your existing color scheme. You may choose a color for one room, but later decide to move it to another room, but are held back by the fact that it clashes with the color scheme in another room.
Quick Fixes – If you run into one of these problems, some quick fixes for changing the color of a piece are:
1. Spray Paint – If the piece is painted, you can quickly spray another coat or 2 or spray paint over it, to change the color without much prep work and no priming. (as long as wax is not the top coat)
2. Whitewash – You can lighten a color quickly by doing a whitewash over the piece.

Nice common sense post. Thank you. @ Barbara R I COULDNT AGREE MORE! I think chalk paint allows the less talented ( who seem to be addicted to mommy blogs,) to feel as though they've acomplished something. And I guess that can't be all bad. Art is subjective. There seem to be an awful lot of people posing as mommy bloggers these days, and judging by the sponsors I see, SOMEONES reading them! The next decorating wave will be " how to strip off all that hideous chalk paint"! Lol!

I don't like chalk paint either but I never dared to say it as to not offend anyone!
