How to clean a dirty bath tub

KMS Woodworks on Jun 29, 2013A scrubbie sponge and can of Bar Keepers Friend, some warm water and heavy gloves. Oh...and have THEM do it. I have a cash reward program for my two girls when its time for them to clean their room. They do a lot of whining, what they have not figured out yet is the long term benefit of staying on top of it. built into the pay structure is a 3 day grace period. Clean the room and you get paid...3 days later if the room is clean you get paid again. If they just keep up on it, they would be well paid ( at least by kid standards) when they let it go...a few weeks of mess is much harder to deal with.Helpful Reply

Wanda Forrest on Jun 29, 2013the best way is to spray vinegar on the tub, everywhere, and then sprinkle baking soda on it. Let it sit for just a few minutes, and then scrub it up. Nothing used is toxic. Might take more than one cleaning, depending on how dirty it is.Helpful Reply

Sherrie on Jun 29, 2013Is it tile or a insert bath and shower? It makes a difference in how you clean because of the surfaces. Is it hard water build up, or soap build up? It makes a difference on how you clean it. Is this I can't get it clean no matter what I do kind of thing, or I have nice tile and don't want it ruined thing? It is easier to answer if I know what it is first.Helpful Reply

Martha on Jun 30, 2013The tub is an insert bath and shower. The build up is of soap and of course dirt...I like the idea of using vinegar and baking soda...I'll try it tomorrow and let you all know how it turned out.Helpful Reply

Sherrie on Jun 30, 2013Bar keepers friend is gentle, so is the dawn, and the borax sounds like a wonderful idea. All these idea's above are good one's. if you heat the shower up with water first let it get warm cleaner always works better. Wanda has the right idea to let the cleaner set for a few minutes to let it work. I take a sponge and make sure it is spread all over. I watch for anything silver because I don't want the stainless steal to etch from the cleaner. Then I scrub and rinse. If you don't get all the cleaner off it will catch dirt again. The vinegar will also work on hard water buildup. I use a window squeegee to dry everything and then wipe it down with a towel. If it is dried every time after use it keeps the build up down. But anyone who ever has had children knows that will never happen.Helpful Reply

Jaycee Petty on Apr 16, 2014If you have a vinyl or acrylic bath tub I have found that if you save your used dryer sheets and gather them into a bunch, tied with string it cleans your tub to a shine. Just spray your tub with Formula 409 or any other mild cleaner and it will look like new!Helpful Reply
