A little walkway out of pallet boards

This quick little project really couldn't be easier! Reclaimed pallet boards were used to create a new walkway through a flower bed. The planks make it an absolute dream to weed by simply lifting the applicable board, and are just high enough to clear any water run off. And yes, they are staying in place and have shown no rot in over 3 years thus far.

Placing the planks in a slight curve as well as random alignment made for a slightly more interesting take.

Decide where you desire your pathway to go, and make it happen! This was after a few shrubs were pulled out and new topsoil was placed.

Is the wood slippery when it rains? It is lovely but I am getting too old for slippery places!

That is awesome! Good way to use up wood you have laying around. I wonder if it would work here, we have all red sand for soil.

I am about to go swipe some pallets from the construction site across the street (I will ask permission, of course!) I was headed to the hardware store to buy some stepping stone. .. You just saved me some money! Thanks!

This is for Katie TX- re: cement paver ideas. I used pizza boxes, old pie tins, old baking pans. Make sure metal is greased first (pam spray) and the cardboard will tear off or you can line with wax paper. Another idea is free form just dig the area in the sand or dirt, level, then pour cement into the shape. Cover with plastic so it cures properly.

Thanks for this idea, it looks great, very beachy and woody. Fieldstone pavers are way over budget for me so this is a great and much cheaper solution for a woodland path. Now to go hunting for pallets.

omgosh! I will be using this idea!! I have a dog that loves to dig(to get cool) and then lay in the whole.....I will put these planks right where he will be comfortable and where they will look great!! I may even experiment with creating sections that lay 45degrees to each other!

This is for Joyce: You can get free pallets from many stores, They are used to pack and ship freight. I am in Canada, and they are offered on Kijiji (Craigslist for you in the U.S.) all the time for free. They are just a burden for stores to get rid of, which is a bonus for those of us wanting them, lol!

Joyce try driving into an industrial area where they ship big things and you'll generally see stacks of them. I find my pallets from a local firetruck manufacturer but I see them stacked along the road all the time in that area.

What would actually work quite well for this type of pathway is wood that is a little deeper than a standard pallet board is. This allows water run off as well as a portion to sink into the ...»

ground for stability without the board disappearing from the surface. Even a few new 2x4s cut down to size would achieve the same result, although larger in scale. I can't see any reason why you couldn't buy whatever you desired. Just keep in mind if the wood is not treated, it may rot in time.

Love your path and the tutorial. Oh how I wish I'd gone for mulch instead of white rock beds for my teahouse & papyrus.
