Patriotic Shutter Decor

2 Materials
I just love to craft with thrifted items! It's fun to reimagine something that was no longer needed and turn it into a bit of home decor. That's exactly what I did with these mini shutters that I found at Goodwill San Antonio.
These small shutters measure about 15 inches long, but you could do the same thing with full size shutters, which I see all the time at thrift stores. With a little paint those old shutters turned into a fun piece of patriotic decor!
Supplies Used to make this project:

Shutters

Craft Paint in Red, White, and Blue

Adhesive Vinyl

Star Die Cut
Step one: Clean the shutter and wipe off all dust and dirt. If the shutters are slick or plastic, you may need to sand them lightly to help the paint adhere.

Step two: Paint every other slat on the shutter white. I used two coats of paint.

Step three: Paint the rest of the slats red. Again, two layers of paint should suffice.
To keep my vinyl from peeling off and to give the shutters a professional, finished appearance, I sealed my project with a brush on varnish. You could use a spray on sealant or whatever product you have in your craft stash. This shutter makes such a fun decorative piece, doesn't it?
