Smoke Bush

I planted a small smoke bush about 5 years ago, it wasn't growing too well, so I moved it. I am amazed at how well it is growing now. It's a little over 6 ft high and has more "smoke" (blooms) on than ever

Carolyn, no this does not bloom year round. As many trees do, this one sheds its leaves in late fall. It is a nice addition to my garden though. I live in eastern NC. We have cold winters, high humdity and hot summers. This past winter we had temps as low as 7 degrees and summer heat as high as 108

I always tell people this. I received my first elephant ears from a lady who showed the to me in her yard and said they would never grow after ten years. I brought it home and lo and behold, they liked the spot and grew to about 10 ft. As I have replanted them over these twenty years, I have noticed they may not like an area and will only grow a few inches during the season, but can be moved 5 feet from where they were and outgrow themselves in a few months. Weird! I have moved so moany ...»
things around my yard, that the neighbors think I am actually buying plants! I have not purchased plants in quite a few years because I constantly divide and conquer. But you MUST find a spot each plant will like.

I do the same thing! It's amazing how moving a plant can make such a huge difference. When we first moved here I would just put a plant where I liked, not paying attention to directions. Big mistake. Now I have shade gardens, sun grdens, part shade gardens, etc.

Your smoke bush is obviously thanking you for the move. They're generally considered hardy to zone 5.

I live in So. Calif. - so I think I may not be seeing this little smokebush around, do to r weather! Melissa-I do that same thing! Can't remember even planting some things. Surely, my neighbors, think I'm nutty too. Course, they're correct, or i wouldn't be spending so much time thinking & worrying over a garden! <3
