Unwanted bugs

Valerie on Jul 09, 2013I came across two suggestions in a book. The first was to mix plaster of Paris with corn flour (equal parts of each) and sprinkle behind appliances or cupboards. They will "petrify" once they ingest it. The second suggestion was to mix 2 tablespoons borax, 1 tablespoon flour, and 1 and a half teaspoons of cocoa powder. Once mixed, put it out in small containers (such as bottle tops) where the roaches congregate. However, there is a warning on the second suggestion to keep it out of reach of children and pets. I have not tried it, as fortunately I do not have this problem - but I do hope it helps.Helpful Reply

MARIANN on Jul 09, 2013thank you so much for taking the time. I live in TX and they have gotten worse in the 7 yrs I have been in this house. I have an exterminator that comes, but the roaches must hide when he comes. I will give these a try. Let you know how they work.Helpful Reply

Shari on Jul 09, 2013Mariann, if you have an exterminator that comes regularly and you are still having problems with roaches, you need to have a heart-to-heart talk with the technician and let him know what he's using is not working. It could be he needs to spray with some other chemical. Roaches hide in dark places so he needs to spray in all cracks and crevices, nooks and cranies--inside and the outside parameter of your house. Parts of Texas have been extremely dry in recent years so the roaches are probably looking for water so he should be spraying extra well around your sources of water, like under your kitchen sink and in the bathroom(s). If you have a Do-It-Yourself pest control store in your area, the clerks are generally pretty knowledgeable about what products do the best job of killing the type(s) of roaches you have. If all your efforts don't work, you might wish to try another exterminator company to see if you get better results.Helpful Reply

Melissa Gutilla on Jul 09, 2013I think I would have them spray around the foundation and then like Shari said every crack, crevice etc... I know this is different but about 8 years ago I had bird mites! Believe me they are horrible things to get! With my allergies they were killing me!! I got rid of the nest which was in our exhaust over the stove of all places!! Then I sprayed the hole with an insecticide spray bombed the house-basement and all! Didn't work! Next hired an exterminator he sprayed everywhere once again! Didn't work! After getting tired of washing everything 80 times I decided to really bomb the house! I made sure everything was open drawers, cabinets, couch cushion tipped, mattresses tipped you name it. Then I bombed the house with way more then called for! I even set some off in the attic due to the fact they can hide up there and in the walls! It worked!!! I would try it! It was the worse 2 months of my life!! I literally had to take all my bed clothes daily and wash them, leave them in the dryer until time for bed just so I could sleep half the night!Helpful Reply
