7665645 on Jun 23, 2016Someone posted a tip about killing ants. She suggested using a spray made from sugar and boric acid. They're drawn to the sugar and then they bring back the poison and it kills the hill. I think you can also just sprinkle the powdered boric acid directly around the affected area.Helpful Reply

Diana on Jun 23, 2016I mix it in a watering can. Bucket works also. Pour the whole gallon on the hill, starting in the middle. That is where the queen will be. Then work your way out to the edges. I only use organic materials/solutions. I have used this method for the last 3 years to kill fire ants in my yard. I have not seen any ants at all this year. You can treat the hills as many times as necessary. It won't hurt anything. It may burn the grass some, but will come back. https://www.dirtdoctor.com/garden/Ant-Fire-Ant-Control-Video_vq4088.htmHelpful Reply

Phil a on Jun 23, 2016Boric acid works, but you typically have to go buy it. We had these "sugar ants" coming up through our paving stones. Home Defense and other sprays just convinced them to move a few feet away. The ONLY thing that worked first time and finally was a mixture of Powdered Sugar and Baking Soda (usually in every kitchen cupboard) sprinkled on and around their mound. The sugar attracts them but the baking soda reacts with the formic acid (the stuff that burns and itches when they bite you) inside of them and kills them. We haven't seen them in our pavers since. That was 2 months ago. It's also safe for kids, other animals and pets. PhilHelpful Reply

Denie on Jun 23, 2016I used diotomaceous earth in a sqeeze bottle and squeezed a small amount where they were coming through on my brick walkway. They have not returned. I picked it up at the garden and feed store.Helpful Reply
