Streetside Flower Garden for Added Curb Appeal

I got sick of the strip of grass in front of my home that runs between the street and the curb. All that ever grew there was crabgrass! So I bought an inexpensive flat of impatiens and some pea gravel, and now that little space between the curb and the sidewalk looks so much better! Next year, I'd love to switch out the impatiens for some perennials, but I am wondering what would look good there. I love lillies, but don't know if lillies would look good in that small space.
