Make Fireflies That Light Up

2 Materials
One of the many things I love about summer vacation is crafting with my kids! I’m always looking for fun projects that we can make using items we have around the house.
I had seen this firefly project idea on Pinterest several times and knew that my kids would love the activity, since watching and catching and releasing fireflies is a treasured summertime activity. These fireflies will never fly away, unlike the real ones!
I prepared all the items ahead of time and set them out so my kids could craft. This would be a great activity to do with a large group of kids at summer camp, story time, or play groups. Toddlers and Preschoolers will need a little help twisting the stems, but older kids can make this project independently.
Punch holes in the easter eggs using the Crop-A-Dile Tool. Punch two holes on the top for the antenna, and six on the bottom for the legs.
Set out all the materials and let your kids start crafting! You could work on these assembly line style, or do like I did and set everything out at once to let kids work at their own pace. My little ones enjoyed this activity so much that they each made 3, and asked to make more! You can watch our short video here to learn exactly how we made our firefly bugs that light up. Have fun crafting and creating!
