TipTopHouse on Jun 26, 2016The finish is done by using drywall compound that is applied using a trowel. Once painted it becomes difficult to damage. To remove this finish you can rent drywall sanding equipment that connects to a vacuum (special type) to help contain dust. You must, must must, cover everything in the room with plastic. Install a window fan with screen removed and run on high drawing air from room outside. Depending on when this was done, test paint surface for lead. if it tests positive, have professionally removed. If not simply use the sanding tools and remove finish back down to the drywall surface. Its dirty, hard and time consuming but it can be done.Helpful Reply
