Creative Picture Frame Mat Using Flooring Samples

Easy
There have been countless occasions in my decorating life where I have found a fantastic piece of art, but I didn't have a good frame. It's easy to find a frame and mat if the picture is a standard size, but if the size is unusual, or if you just want something unique, all you need is a little creativity! For this project, I used free flooring sample tiles from the home improvement store to improvise a stunning mat for an upcylced thrift store frame. The project was simple and inexpensive, and the mat provided a unique backdrop for a neat art print. Visit my blog for more information on this creative project!
This unique picture display is made from a thrift store frame and flooring sample tiles!
This is the frame as we originally found it in the thrift store.
We knew we needed to purchase spray paint for our frame, and we searched the home improvement store for creative materials for the mat. We decided on these flooring sample tiles!
We painted the frame white, and a pearl finished was used as a topcoat to give the frame a shimmery look.
For the mat we laid out the flooring tiles on the cardboard that was already in the frame so we could get the proper size.
We cut a few of the flooring tiles to get the correct size, and glued them to the cardboard.
After everything was dry, we reassembled, and had a cool new frame for the art print!
