    it is caused by bacteria. the link above doesn't work any more but you can google bacterial canker and find lots of info.

    that's bad news. I bet the plants look bad too? it's early blight, or septoria leaf spot. now where you live, you could definitely replant for a fall crop, in a different place. Spray those plants with fungicide, and plant some new ones upwind.

    We see this in our area frequently, and it is more from environmental changes, and has no effect on the fruit, or the plant.

    Hello Mary , take a 20 oz. spray bottle, crush 2 uncoated Aspirin, 1 oz. hole milk, mix with worm water, let it set about 10 min. till the Aspirin completely dissolve, shake good before itch use, spray the whole plant. once a week, see if that don"t get rid of your spots.
