Discolored cupboard

These are real oak, and I let milk boil over. It discolored the wood, what can I do?

That's a great question. I need to know also as my son is starting to tinker around in the kitchen and has spilled on my oak cabinets a couple of times

You can try Old English Furniture polish and Scratch remover, it takes out scratches and spots. I use it for the furniture I re-sell, to bring them back to life and works really well. They have it for light and dark wood. It's worth a try.

I would try Old English also. You might go over the stains with a really fine grit sandpaper 500 or 600 grit very lightly in case the milk has left a coating on it and then apply the Old English. Murphy's Oil Soap works well too. Good luck!!

you could apply the boiling milk with a paintbrush to the rest of the cupboards to make it look intentional - gives it a whitewashed look

You need a product called Restore. THat is what most antiques dealers use to repair damaged on wood things. I've used to recolor my oak cabinets in this house after years of abuse, did front door too. You can get most anywhere that sells antique. Here is what he writes about it. I always love when a customer will come up to me and tell me what a good result they had when they did a project using a product that we write about. When kitchen cabinets look dry, or lack the color they used to have when they were new I always recommend Restore A Finish and then Howards Feed and Wax . Cabinets that are in the kitchen get a lot of grease on them and dirty areas right around the knobs and pulls from years of use. If your cabinets have a stained wood finish and are good shape, don’t refinish those cabinets ; restore them to back to their natural beauty. The first step in getting your cabinets looking great again is to clean them to get rid of all the dirt and oil. Use the Holloway House Fine Wood Cleaner and a clean white rag and wipe the wood finish turning the rag and keeping a clean side to clean with. Once the cabinets are clean if you have discoloration in areas of the cabinets from water or sun damage, and then use the Restore A Finish to bring the color back to the cabinets without having to refinish the cabinets. If the stain looks good, just use the Feed and Wax to add deep luster back into the cabinets. Feed and Wax protects your cabinets and is made from beeswax, carnauba wax and orange oil which will enhance the depth of the grain in the wood. My daughter moved into a house that had just very inexpensive cabinets that really only had a light veneer of wood over a chip wood construction. She was sure that nothing could make them look better. But she tried the Feed and Wax and was amazed and thrilled at how good the cabinets looked. I have used scrub buddies or scrubber cleanz, they are erase sponges, can get them at some dollar stores, they are soft and not abrasive and they have worked for me when I had the same problem.

Bri-Wax is usually my go-to product to clean almost any type of wood. Outstanding on antiques or any kind of wood for that matter. It comes in clear as well as multiple wood colors but I stick to the clear for everything. A pair of rubber gloves and some 0000 steel wool and this stuff works wonders. You can get it in your local hardware store or if not, I get mine on Amazon. Good luck!

Google how to remove water stains with a steam iron. It may work on this too.
