Custom Built Playhouse

We tore down our shed to build a custom playhouse for our children. Since we have never built a playhouse before, we were winging it! I came up with a plan and started building. I wanted to include a porch, loft area, and great room as you entered the door.
First, we built a frame out of 2x10's. We built the structure of the playhouse with 2x4's, framing in the loft area, around the porch, and the kitchen side. The loft goes above the porch and on the right side of the playhouse overlooking the great room.
We used old windows that we found on craigslist to save money. 4x4's make up the porch once they are painted white and the small banister is added. The roof peaks at 12 feet!
The walls are covered with plywood and tar paper to block from moisture. I created a siding out of 1x4's laid one on top of the other and secured with a nail gun.
A dormer was added so that the kids could peak out a window from the second floor. We used leftover shingles from someone's housing project to cover the roof. It makes it look like a real house!
The loft is closed off for safety with 2x2's and a ladder was built to reach the second floor and screwed in so that it doesn't fall. A twisty slide from my childhood was added to the side of the house for a quick exit out!
The door was made out of a closet door that I cut down to miniature size! After a couple coats of paint on the siding and porch, the house is finished! The inside is unfinished as of now, but it's still a blast to play in. Check out the full tutorial at Mommy's Tool Belt.
