Cedar siding problem

KMS Woodworks on Jul 18, 2013The "wood fiber" issue sounds like a power washing failure to me...as this often erodes away the softer wood and leaves these fibers. The white crystals sound like the product was not rinsed fully. I took a look at the Sunfrog site and looked up the MSDS for the born again. It contains oxalic acid which is the main ingredient in the "brightener" product I use from Penofin. You said you sealed it already? Ideally the residue should have been fully rinsed BEFORE the sealer was applied. I would see if you can rinse it some more with just the garden hose...not a power washer...some light scrubbing with a "deck brush" should help. http://www.networx.com/article/the-right-way-to-clean-a-deck decks and siding both fall into this care regimeHelpful Reply

Tracy P on Oct 30, 2015I honestly don't think people should ever pressure wash siding. It damages the siding (unless it's vinyl) and drives water behind it for all types of siding which is already a problem with vinyl as you usually can't tell that you have water behind the siding and trim until there is a huge problem.Helpful Reply
