Hardwood floors - match or not
-
KMS Woodworks on Jul 21, 2013Hardwood over carpet will be a big plus when resale time comes along. It does not need to match. because these are bedrooms the transition zone is pretty small ( just the door threshold) this helps even more. Here is a link to a floor I refinished some years back where two woods were used. ( I stained the kitchen area darker per the HO's request) http://www.flickr.com/photos/kmswoodworks/4526532473/in/set-72157623938796966Helpful Reply

Z on Jul 22, 2013We eventually are going to replace the carpet in our bedrooms with hardwoods. I plan on making a border using left over wood from the rest of the house, including the hallway which the bedrooms enter from about three boards in to help marry the two wood together. If you have any remnants of your current hardwood that's a possibility.Helpful Reply

White Oak Studio Designs on Jul 22, 2013In my old house, I had different carpets and wood throughout I always hated the way it looked chopped up and odd. I'm not considered a "fussy" person and compromise a lot on my home due to costs however, I personally like my floors to match and be the same flooring type. To me it makes the area flow and the house look more consistent. It also makes the space look bigger. If it was me, I'd wait and save up the money until I had enough to set aside to do all the floors at once. In my current home (an older style 1950's ranch home) I put down Riverrock flooring in the entryway and carried it throughout the three-season porch both areas have doors (due to ice, snow, sand coming in etc.) I put down Amtigo linoleum strips in the kitchen, two bathrooms, living and dining room areas. I have never been happier and more satisfied with my decision.Helpful Reply
