Get rid of earwigs

Does anyone have a good natural way to spray plants to get rid of earwigs??? They are eating my daisies alive and have chomped every leaf on our lilac bush? We just moved here. It's a very dry climate (central Oregon) and now slugs are not the problem, but earwigs are! Help!

Just like slugs.... Gather as many glass jars or shallow plastic bowls ( choose dark colored ones!) bury them-- So the top or openings are "soil level", all around the plants you are trying to protect!! Then fill them with the cheapest, stinkiest beer you can buy!! ( you will need to either bag the bugs -- daily--- in plastic bags BEFORE you throw them away, or you might put them in a burning barrel--- if you have one?!

    • This sounds like a good idea , but one area where they are living is under my huge chrysanthemum bushes... and I don't think I want to go digging around in there underneath and have those ugly critters getting in my hair! Ugh..... I can see why they like it there, after hearing all of these comments that they like dark cool places! Gives me the shivers!

Fill empty cans or jars with scrunched up paper. They will nest in this because it is cosy!! Empty out periodically .

I would try spraying a Dawn solution on tops and undersides of all infected plants. If that does not work, try the beer.

Spray the plants down with horticultural oil.

What about earwigs in the house? For some reason it's been extremely buggy this summer here in Connecticut... Ticks falling out of trees, mosquitos galore, I got attacked by a June bug that sliced my finger open, carpenter ants helping themselves to my house and now these nasty earwigs in my house!!! Side note, my house is clean, no shoes inside, nothing that I can think of other than the house is old like 1890's old but all the Neigboors are having trouble too! What do you all think would help this! I'm terrified of a stupid earwig seriously making a home in my ear.... I already have Lyme and lupus I don't need some crazy earwig hatching eggs in me... Omg that's creepy, why'd I go there? Ughhh

Diatomaceous Earth. Sprinkle this powder at doorways, around decks, wherever you think they may lurk. This powder desiccates and kills them, so if they walk through this into your home, they'll die there. Sprinkle around plants, they'll die there. Since using it we've never had a single occurrence near or in our home. It's safe for pets, also!

It is found in the gardening section with all the other bug sprays, etc. Diatomaceous Earth is all natural, and not harmful to people, etc. I got mine at WM. We have earwigs from all the rain we had this spring, and they were eating all the flowers. I turned to Hometalk right away!

No! It has nothing to do with your "cleanliness"----- but, they love dark, damp moisture places.... If you get rid of the problem outside, and trap the ones inside, you will be fine!! ( they are yucky looking creatures, aren't they?)

3 tbs Neem oil, 1 tbs insecticidal soap, water to fill 1 qt spray bottle...mix, shake and spray in morning.

Easiest way INSIDE the house is roll up some WET newspaper into a "tunnel" and fold one end over. Then, put these around anywhere you have seen them. When you "check them" in the morning----QUICKLY fold over the open end and drop the entire WET newspaper into a PLASTIC bag, knot it up and throw it away!!

I put a few inches of vegetable oil in a small plastic cup (applesauce, jello pudding cup) and make a depression in the dirt near the plant and put the cup in it. They can get in it but can't get out. I've been doing this for 2 summers now and it works!

Wal-Mart, Lowes, Home Depot or any independent garden center carries a spray called "Seven" or "Eight". I can't remember which one kills what but they work on all plants & shrubs w/o hurting them. Make sure to follow the directions or damage could appear.

Eight is the one that kills earwigs and Japanese Beetles. We just sprayed our river birch with this and the beetle just fell out of the tree. Also sprayed some around the plants and watched a few earwigs take their last breath...

take a bucket, squirt in some dishwashing soap and fill about 1/4 full with water. At around 2 a.m., go outside with a flashlight. You will see them covering your daisies. Just put on a rubber glove and knock them off into the bucket; it kills them almost instantly. Do this every night for about a week and you'll be pretty much rid of them. Then just dump the bucket somewhere out of the way. I had thousands of them on my six foot tall shasta daisy bushes and now they're gone!

Using an old cat food tin, I fill about a third with beer or wine. I then put in dirt near the stem of plant and leave overnight. The next morning it is always loaded with earwigs, caterpillars and slugs.

I hope you get rid of them, very quickly!! They are nasty little creatures...
