Is this a new stainless steel product? Like a refrigerator, or stove or sink? And what brand? Here is the generic version of cleaning stainless steel .. This won't cause any damage every product is different it is best to follow the manufactor's guidelines. Use a micro fiber cloth and a few drops of dish soap. Wash then rinse. Then dry in the direction of the grain. I use glass towels to dry stainless steel. It isn't rough it won't stratch or create any damage. Most manufactor's seal their different sinks are made in different grades. So cleaning is as different. You really need to follow your manufactor guideline and they usually even have them online for you.

I use WD-40 on my stainless refrigerator, stove and dishwasher. I spray it on a very soft cloth and wipe with the grain. Flip the cloth over and wipe off the excess. Works great for me and I'm a clean freak.

Sprinkle your sink with bottled lemon juice, then with baking soda, and scrub with the grain of your sink. Rinse, give it a polish with vinegar, then a little veggie oil for sparkle. Safe, clean, cheap! :)

After you clean with a product put a thin coat of baby oil on it and that helps when you just have to wipe it off. Put it on with paper towel.

A lot depends on the type of stainless you are cleaning. The stainless of an appliance is much thinner than that of a kitchen sink and will scratch very easily. Always, always wipe with the grain and only with a soft cotton cloth like a t-shirt or cotton diaper. A sink is easily cleaned and polished with bar keepers friend (otherwise known as oxalic acid) just be sure to rinse very well. For fingerprints on appliances use a paste of mild soap and baking soda, again always wipe with the grain. To remove the film left behind spray with hydrogen peroxide and buff dry.
