Coral and Leather Chair Makeover

I purchased this plain jane chair at Goodwill for around $4. It looked like someone had chewed on the top back of the chair (gross!), and the seat upholstery was a nasty and stained burlap of some type. The bottom of the chair was date stamped from 1965, so that was pretty cool!
I removed the seat from the chair. Then I cut a piece of gorgeous gray leather to be slightly larger than the seat. I had to use really sharp sewing scissors because the leather was so thick.
Next, I used a heavy-duty staple gun to fasten the leather to the seat.
I stapled all the way around - starting in the corners - and I trimmed excess leather once the entire piece of leather was fastened. I made sure to pull the leather taut as I went along.
Next, I used my electric sander to smooth the rough edges of the chair - especially the chewed up part at the top. Then I painted the chair a dark gray chalky finish paint. Once that dried, I added a layer of coral chalky finish paint. I made sure to keep some of the base layer of gray peeking through.
I re-attached the seat to the chair and was so pleased with my makeover!
From the gorgeous and fun color to the beautifully-soft leather seat, this chair definitely got an upgrade in appearance!

William on Jul 18, 2016I love the lines on the chair! The coral looks so good with the grey seat. bringing out the details gives it that extra pop. Great Job!
