Ikea Butchers Trolley Makeover
by

(IC: homeowner)
I bought this butchers trolley second hand and decided it needed a makeover. The whole thing was orange pine all over. I set to with the masking tape and taped off the legs and painted just the outsides of the legs - undercoat followed by two coats of water based white paint. The top needed sanding back as there were ring marks from saucepans on the top that would not come off with washing. Once sanded back, the top was rejuvenated using food safe mineral oil especially for butchers blocks and cutting boards. You just wipe on with a soft cloth leave a few minutes and wipe it off. It soaks into the board and seals it and leaves a lovely finish. Best to apply several times over several hours. Preferable to use this rather than linseed or a food based oil as that can turn rancid over time. I added a towel rail which can be used to hang tea towels or you could use S hooks to hang utensils instead.

Carole on Aug 06, 2013Kate, the towel rail was purchased at the hardware store in the bathroom section as a pack of two end fittings, then the rail is separate and you just cut it to size with a hacksaw. I always like to dress up my makeovers for their photo shoot to show how they could look in someone's home.
