How can I clean grout residue off of porcelain tile?

Sia@South 47th on Jul 26, 2013Hi @CAMAY , is it filmy or is it thick and hard? Home Depot has Grout remover, or you can carefully 'chip' it off with a screwdriver, being careful not to scratch your tile. If it's just a light thin 'film', then you can use soap, water and a soft sponge.Helpful Reply

CAMAY on Jul 26, 2013Hi, thanks. It would probably be like a film if the tile were shiny but it is a ruff surface so it just looks like dirt on the tile. My tile is not marble it is porcelain. Would the same apply for porcelain?Helpful Reply

Sia@South 47th on Jul 26, 2013@CAMAY Ahhh. I'd probably go with the remover then, being very careful to apply it only on the tile and not in the grouted areas. ;)Helpful Reply

Woodbridge Environmental Tiptophouse.com on Jul 28, 2013Grout and thinset remover is acid. Not recommended on Marble as it can etch the surface. If you try this do this in a very small area before moving ahead. when grouting marble, it is suggested that you wipe the marble down with a tile sealer before you grout. This makes the grout easy to remove if it gets on the surface.Helpful Reply

SLS Construction & Building Solutions LLC on Jul 28, 2013Well you didn't state if it was epoxy or regular - assuming regular grout Grab a grout sponge with the white abrasive pad on it & use a little water to help buff it out - yeah it will take a bit but it works great & is enough in most cases The second option is a buffer or you can try going straight to the third option which would be a haze remover / cleaner Now if it is epoxy grout, read the directions on the package & use what they recommendHelpful Reply

Woodbridge Environmental Tiptophouse.com on Jul 28, 2013So sorry, Been doing a bath this weekend, with tons of Marble in it. (Photos to come soon) Its on my brain. But yes you need to be careful when using any acid based cleaner or in this case grout haze remover. It can etch the surface. After all your trying to remove type II cement.Helpful Reply
