The cushion on my porch furniture are outdated and old looking.

The fabric on the cushions is either polypropylene or some kind of plastic. They are very durable (27 years old) and they dry very quickly. What kind of paint (if any) can I paint and not have peeling or cracking ?

I actually used regular spray paint (Rustoleum) to paint mine. The color is lasting fairly well and doesn't rub off on clothing after it's fully dry. You could try the underside of one to see how your fabric takes the paint before doing them all. I just went ahead and used this method because I figured if I could get at least one more summer out of ours it would be worth it....before having to recover in new fabric. :-)

    Rustoleum or Krylon should work.

Someone suggested in an earlier post that you use Martha Stewart sizing to add to the paint. That should keep the fabric from getting to hard. Wish I could say I had already tried it, but still on my to do list.

I have only painted indoor / outdoor fabric and it did not make it any stiffer than the original fabric. This type of paint is usually made for cloth auto upholstery and it doesn't change the texture.

Another super ez idea is to gently cut one side of the cover slip it off and cut along the seams, and use the pieces as your pattern, go to Joannes or ? buy some new outdoor fade resistent fabric and simply make some new covers! You dont even need to sew, you can use fabric glue :)

I needed to cover my patio cushions quick and inexpensively for an unexpected wake. I bought matching inexpensive bath/beach sheets at K-mart that matched my patio colors, I used office supply spring clips and bungee cords to attach the towels and was able to hide them. Looked great and when cushions went on clearance later that year I could replace them and used the towels inside.

I like your cushions-would just new throw pillows in vibrant colours give you the change you want?

I tried that- doesn't help. But thanks for your suggestion

Rustoleum makes a fabric paint that should do the trick. It has great reviews!

Thanks. I guess from the responses I got, I am torn between milk paint & rust oleum fabric paint.

Cut and cover with cheap vinyl table cloths. Tack underneath. Easy to change with seasons!
