Inexpensive Alternative to Playground Equipment

We all want the best for our kids. Sometimes the best or what we think is the best is really expensive. Playground equipment or swingsets for the home can be very pricey. I like to repurpose anything that makes sense and in this case is fun and safe for the kids. When I was visiting a local military surplus store I came across some cargo nets from military airplanes. They were only $30. Being a pilot by profession I knew what these were and that they would hold anything my grandkids could do to them. I'm sure uncle sam paid thousands for these nets. We hung the cargo net below a tree house we had already built.
This is a closer look at the net. We call it the kid catcher. Once the neighborhood kids found this they were all over it.
We anchored on end of the other net to tie downs.
We tied the other end of the second net to the tree just below the tree house. This created a climbing wall if you will to the tree house and the kid catcher.
Oh yeah. They like it!
Johnny Walker at 3 masters the kid catcher.
