The Easiest Way to Open a Jar

If there's one thing I hate it's when I can't twist open a jar, especially when time's short and I'm preparing dinner. I could always ask someone else to try and open it for me, but unless my hubby happens to be home (a rare occurrence at 4 o'clock on a weekday), there's no one else to ask. So, I was really excited when I found this tip online. It worked so well that I knew I had to share it with all of you!

Step 1: Gather your Materials
In this case, it's just some duct tape and your jar that won't open.
I love using duct tape for so many things, so I always have it on hand. Step 2: Put Duct Tape on the Lid
I first put a piece of duct tape on the lid, and curved it around part of the lid. Make sure you put the tape in the direction the lid opens. This trick is meant to open the jar, not make it tighter! Also be sure to not put any tape on the jar itself, or else the lid won't come off.
Before you cut the duct tape, make sure you leave enough tape to make a “tail.” This is what you're going to grasp to open the jar. I also used two pieces of duct tape to make sure it was strong enough, but one long piece should also work. Step 3: Firmly Grip the Tape "Tail" and Jar
Grip the "tail" firmly, and hold the jar in place. I actually gripped it with my left hand, and I pulled a muscle. I should use my right hand next time. Step 4: Pull to Open
Pull the tape "tail" while holding the jar. Keep the jar in place, or it might fly off.
And the lid just pops off! The first time I did this I was not expecting it to be so easy, and I actually made a little mess when the lid came off.
This trick really works! Trust me, if you have some duct tape, you'll never struggle to open a jar again.

Thank you, I shall have to try that next time I can't get off. Does it work on bottle tops as well please? I always keep duck indoors, as it is so useful.

I have always just tipped the jar on its side and tapped the lid part on the edge of the counter top with enough strength to loosen the lid but not dent it. Have you tried that method? If so, do you think the duct tape is easier?
