Buttons can be added to most anything to accent an item and make it more unique. I've seen shank buttons sewn just beneath the pinch pleats of draperies to add some pizazz! They could be added here and there along the edges of draperies to add some interest and maybe even at the hem. I enjoyed reading through all the other suggestions!
Draw a design or maybe a picture and sew buttons on in suitable colours to fill the area. Then you could mount it up and frame it.
