I bought this old dresser for $20 I like redoing furniture I need help

I have taken up redoing furniture in the last few years. I'm getting pretty good at it I spotted this dresser I don't think it's worth much but I seem to like it I only paid $20 for it. How would I redo it?
I don't know the time or what the correct name would be it just caught my eye and for 20$ I felt it was a deal

What a beautiful piece! I'd have been all over that too. Lol I'd try to refinish it to original wood if it's in great shape. But I wouldn't be apposed to painting it either. I think a nice deep color with a gold glaze over that would be awesome! I'd buy it in a heartbeat. Good luck! You can do it.

I would simply strip the existing finish with a non-toxic stripper as Citristrip and re-stain and seal. Please do not paint the beautiful wood.

Gorgeous piece. I'd try to keep it as close to the original as possible, depending on the condition of the wood. I hate to paint wood furniture that's in good shape. Whatever you decide to do with it, you got a great deal.

The new craze is painting.......so check around your area if you are thinking of selling it. Would painting it be wise or if you are keeping what do you prefer- Stripping is so rewarding. I love to give new life to old items with fresh stain. But I also love to paint old items if they were not passed down in family. This dresser would look great in tank and black and stain top Expresso ! Have fun

It's a lovely piece of furniture.. I wonder if it would look good if you do leave the draws like they are. Sand back and paint top and surrounding wood a light color to make the design on the draws stand out. The draws would be the focal point of the dresser and look amazing.

I am so jealous. What a gorgeous piece of furniture. $20 bucks Wow! So, maybe sand and restain the top a dark ebony shade and poly with a high gloss. OR, paint the top and drawer fronts a color of your choice. The sky's the limit. Have fun.

I am trying to figure out if the design on the front is *painted* on or carved on. Nevertheless, this is a fabulous piece. I would not hide it in a bedroom, but you need to plan to put this front and center....buffet/sideboard in the dining room or in the entry. Now is the time to do some serious research about what you want this piece to look like when it is done.
