Wait until the ground is wet. If you are able to water the soil, drench the weeds and then pick them. Do not wait until they go to seed. Good Luck. Some are very nasty, so wear gloves.

Do your weeding after a rain or after watering. The ground will be soft and it is easier to pull the weeds by their roots

We put black plastic over the ground and around the plants. With the heat of the sun, it kills all vegetation under it and sterilizes the soil.

If this is a veggie garden, place layers of newspaper and cover lightly with soil to hold in place, This is especially helpful between rows.

Weeding after a rain makes it so easy. You can also use a pre-emergent before weeds appear or a post-emergent after they appear. Read the directions. Landscape fabric works fairly well, depending on the weeds.

Depends on where you are weeding. Mow early and often so the weeds can't set seeds. I finally put up a stockade fence to keep my neighbor's stickers seeds from blowing into my grass. All the ideas above are good ones.

I use a product called Preen in the spring that prevents weed seeds from coming up. Then do it again a month later. If you do not want to use this product, I have heard that several layers of newspaper spread over the area will prevent weeds from coming up. The newspaper must be wetted down and will probably discintegrate in time but more can be added.

If I understand correctly, you don't want to weed in between your vegetables. This is what I do, now there are some vegetables that you can't do this too. like beets and carrots. After planting, your plants, lay down 4 ply of newspaper ( dampen it a little before laying down, makes it easier) around all your plants, then I put down about 4" of grass mulch. You will not have weeds, this can be done in your walkways also.but do not have weeds where you are covering, has to be weed free. This also keeps your soil moist, next spring just till it under. I am a lazy gardener, I hate to weed, but love gardening. good luck

Haha I have a little v-shaped garden tool that lets me just pry it out of the ground as I walk around. Grandkids get a nickel for the ones they pick up. Wonder when they are going to ask for more money?

I've had great success with strips of carpet between my rows , in my walk ways. No weeding necessary except the occasional seed that roots in the carpet. Not only does it stop weeds but also helps hold the moisture in the soil. After that, directly around my plants, where the carpet doesn't cover, I use the sawdust and wood chips that I save from my wood shop and cutting firewood, as mulch. The next year, in the spring, I roll up the carpet strips, till in the sawdust, roll out the carpet and plant. The carpet strips last a very long time, even being left out all winter in NY.

We use strips of indoor outdoor carpet--we get something inexpensive at Home Depot or lowes. Then after hubby mows the yard and our neighbors, we place the grass clippings around the plants as mulch, extra nitrogen and weed prevention. Just make sure you get the clippings before fertilizer goes on the grass, especially if you are growing organically. I do use preen in my flower beds as well, but not for veggies.

We eliminated our lawn, went with railroad timbers edging gravel walks and bark mulch areas. ALL our plants are in containers. Commercial weed fabric (free from local road building company) beneath gravel and mulch. When weeds pop up I use vinegar and salt on gravel or mulch areas as spot treatment. Planters easy to keep weed free. Glad to be rid of the lawn, but that's just our preference.
