Advice with trimming wood

I have a really good piece of wood and I need to reduce the depth at the back of it by about 5mm to fit in. It's only the back bit of the piece. In width it's about 1/2". I have been sanding and sanding this 1/2". Surely there is an easier way. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

Sanding 1/2" would take forever! You can purchase a rasp or block plane, you would remove more wood quicker.

Find someone with a jointer/planer. A cabinet shop should be able to do this in a jiffy and shouldn't cost much if anything.

I would use either the Dremel door planer (nice accessory to add to your bits) or a table saw.
