Don't know. Do know that taking 125mg B-1 Vitamin daily will stop them from biting you. Start 2-3 weeks prior to season and continue as long as needed.

This recipe is supposed to work well. A big bottle of cheap blue mouthwash, 3 cups of Epsom salts and 12 oz. of stale beer. Mix together and spray. Doesn't harm flowers or pets. It is supposed to keep mosquitoes away for 80 days. This is outdoors of course.

Reply to Judy....epsom salt is magnesium. Great for your roses!

Im thinking it should not kill other plants if used in modeateation.

I plant large pots of lemon grass and place around my deck. Also have various scented geraniums mixed in, and this seems to help quite a bit.

I don't know how natural it is, but I use AVON Skin So Soft bath oil spray (original scent) for mosquitos, ants, etc. Insects hate the smell. It also works for fleas, but has to be watered down since it's an oil, so I don't really use it for that. Works on mosquitos though, I can vouch for that, and ants. I feed the outside stray cats and the ants get in their food so I spray it on the base of the bowls. it also takes off the goo from labels, and a lot more. I swear by the stuff and buy the spray bottles, then I can refill them, but it lasts forever.

Maybe it's something to do with my body - I'm am a mosquito's delight. I tried using AVON Skin So Soft (my neighbor swears by it) but on me it was torture!! Made the attack feel like I was caught in a swarm!

I don't want to use chemicals so I'm looking for a natural repellent that I can just spray in the area and not have to spray myself.

"Sweet Annie" plant. It smells good, grows up to 6' and keeps all the little pesty mosquitoes, knatts, and others away. You can also use the plant as you would Babies breath. Got Love That Sweet Annie!

I agree with Marla. Sweet Annie is very fragrant. Will seed and reseed. You can mow it, move it, and enjoy it as a forever perennial. It is so fragrant it was used as a strewing herb for the floor. Helped cover up unpleasant odors and chase away unwelcome insects. Wait till you smell it after a rain!

P.S. note on Sweet Annie: Aphids love it. So, it will attract them from other plants such as tomatoes. You will notice them when you brush against the plant, but the aphids will not migrate elsewhere, because Sweet Annie is their favorite plant in the whole plant kingdom!

I have a trick. Not for mosquitoes, but for fruit flies. I put some leftovers in a large bowl and wait till it is full of fruit flies. Then I cover the bowl with the lid that I have left nearby and throw them outside. In one day, I can get rid of most of them.

The best hack for ridding your patio or porch from mosquito's is.. Empty Jar with a strip of cloth, with drops of Eucalyptus oil on it. Put cloth in jar, drop drops of eucalyptus oil on it, close the lid. When you are outside, open the lid and the scent will keep them away. Some have also tried Lavender drops but i think eucalyptus oil works best. :)

Mosquitoes don't come near a half lime fruit with cloves stuck in the cutting face. They also don't like citronella oil and eucalyptus oil. If you ad a small teaspon of citronella oil to the fabric softener (or citronella + vinegar instead of fabric softener) your clothes will smell wonderful and the best of all - mosquitoes will fly the other way and don't come near you. ;-)

ah mosquito season soon to be upon us again. those little blood suckers start their lives in stagnant or still water. get rid of the stagnate or still water around your yard. empty the saucers from under your potted plants. if you have rain barrels cover them with mosquitoe sized mesh. give the barrels a mosquito dunk. use mosquito dunk granular form in puddles that can't be drained. clean out your gutters so rain water will flow down the spouts.
