Gary Hardman on Aug 05, 2016I have done several larger glass cabinets using chalk paint and a wax over. If you want more distressed use a black wax to she it. I also take the back panel off the glass part and attack document fabric.Helpful Reply

Oregon Cat on Aug 05, 2016I just finished painting my kitchen cabinets for the 2nd time. They are veneer and slick. 1st time I used primer for slick surfaces, it was ok but didn't hold up. This time I used chalk paint and then put a satin finish latex over it. It is wonderful. Chalk paint makes the best primer!!! You can make your own or get Folkart Home Decor chalk paint at Joanns or other craft stores and it goes a long ways. Good luck!Helpful Reply

Charlene on Aug 05, 2016I have had good luck painting laminate by first sanding lightly then painting with quality primer like Kils in flat finish. You can then paint it any way you wish. Good luck and have fun.Helpful Reply

Helen on Aug 05, 2016I rather like the dark color on the door. But, if you want to repaint it that badly I suggest you sand it 1st with coarse sand paper and then step by step work your way with 200 grit paper. Using a chamois wipe it down and dry with lint free rags. When dry, apply a light coat of good primer, my preference is Behr, and repeat with 1 more coats after each dries thoroughly. After it is dry, you should be able to paint the piece with the color/finish that you desire. I am not a professional but I've read enough about it and seen enough of it from my husband who was a professional so I'm telling you what he would do. Good luck and once you've finished, please post pictures! I'd love to see it.Helpful Reply

Marlayne Caskanette on Aug 06, 2016most importantly use a high adeasion primer , if not the paint will simply peel off ,,,, once the primer is on paint any colour you like I like Bullseye or kills high adheision primerHelpful Reply

Sandra Hellewell on Aug 06, 2016I agree that you should 1st use a high adhesion primer but I would not sand laminate as it is chipboard underneath! I highly recommend Glidden Gripper. It comes in white and gray but for the dark colors, the gray is the best choice! Then you can use chalk paint or a good quality paint that is made specifically for cabinets, trim and furniture. Depending on how much use your furniture will get, you might want to finish it with a protective coating. Just keep in mind that the primer is the key to success! Good luck!Helpful Reply

Denise Hardy on Aug 07, 2016With Zinsser BIN or Zinsser Bulls Eye Primer you will not have to sand it down and... then if you want a chalk paint I would recommend Annie Sloans paint in whatever colour you wish and then either use a clear wax or a top coat varnish i.e. Polyvine to protect it. http://www.decorativeideas.co.ukHelpful Reply

Debbie on Aug 09, 2016Thank you all for your help. I have bought some Zinsser 123 that was recommended to me and will prime with that as it says no need for sanding. I will then pant with a chalk paint and a clear wax. Fingers crossed !!!Helpful Reply

Annie Doherty on Aug 10, 2016Debbie I use these products on everything, Zinsser bullseye 123 is a perfect primer, no need to sand and agree with Sandra you don't want to sand chipboard. The products you have chosen will give you a terrific result, good luck.Helpful Reply

Shannon Olden on Aug 12, 2016chalk paint does not need priming. i use a canadian brand for my projects but i imagine annie sloans is the same. you can also buy flat latex and mix your own chalk paint. if you want to distress it paint with a darkish brown or black first. fantastic results. and fun to do!Helpful Reply
