Ann R.McDermand on Aug 05, 2016Rock gardens are gorgeous but the weeds love them too ! The are are so many flowers and plants the like rocks depending on your zone. Check the internet and look up rock garden plants, heck you could just plug in the term gardens. I've seen many different kinds and some of them would be happy to work as a background for your fire pit...if that's what you have in mind. I'm in what's referred to as the high northern plains in the almanac, zone 4 here but I always plant for zone 3. Best of luck to you and have fun too!Helpful Reply

Three Dogs in a Garden on Aug 06, 2016Most rock garden plants like good, but well-drained soil, so you may have to amend your soil and add some very fine gravel. Check out my series of posts on a rock garden in Nova Scotia for some inspiration and plant ideas: http://threedogsinagarden.blogspot.ca/2015/01/the-rock-garden-part-1.htmlHelpful Reply

Mary-Beth Flynn Smith on Aug 07, 2016I did this plant/ rock garden last year as it was behind our screen house, not getting any sun. We've since taken the screen house down and still get very little sun. I planted hosta's in there. Bought rocks at Lowe's and placed them on top of the dirt. Haven't had too many weeds to pull from there surprisingly as I do in my other flower gardens.Helpful Reply
