Painted/Stained Stairs

I had to laugh - my husband wears size 13 shoes and we currently have loads of scuff marks on the steps coming up from our basement. These look lovely! (Nice to see a Cincinnati area blogger! I'm in Northern Kentucky!)

What kind of paint should I use for riser on doors going outside.Regular paint wears off with cold weather ?
