Diane on Aug 11, 2016If you can't remove it, do a faux brick design on it and I'm with Doreen, to hang flower boxes. Or paint it the color of the window trim and hang window boxes. It will add so much dimension to it. Good luck!Helpful Reply

Jackie Hendricks on Aug 11, 2016Looks like it already matches the door colors. Personally, I wouldn't touch it. It's a decent piece of architectural interest, and it's subtle, not a glaring eyesore.Helpful Reply

Marsha on Aug 11, 2016Paint it black or charcoal and hang a black wrought iron window box on it and fill with greenery. Then add shutters on the sides of the windows and paint front door black or charcoal. Fantastic:)Helpful Reply

Kim Hermansky Zoccali on Aug 11, 2016How about hammered copper sheeting. Would look great against the brick especially once it starts to patina.Helpful Reply

Danielle on Aug 11, 2016Glue airstone to it, the brick vs stone will play nicely together. Honestly I'd paint the front door, too. I like that color green, but not next to the brick.Helpful Reply

Laurie on Aug 11, 2016I agree that some brick facing the same colour would look best; easiest to try painting the cours of the brick or one of its dominant colours. Good luck!Helpful Reply

L on Aug 11, 2016It's probably a piece of shutter. You can add more pieces on both side of the windows (vertically) and paint them all the same color. Black will make the house looks more elegant.Helpful Reply

Elaine on Aug 11, 2016What's underneath it? Brick. If so, simply remove it. If not, I'd paint it a VERY muted quiet taupe color - something that blends with the roof OR blends with the brick. Please don't paint it cream, black, brown or whatever as it will stick out like a sore thumb. It just needs to 'meld' (or blend) into the background. You have a lovely home. Once it's painted the correct color, people won't even notice it.Helpful Reply

Ann Campanie on Aug 11, 2016I would paint it gray or black, whatever the darkest shade is in the bricks.Helpful Reply

Dlt2421789 on Aug 11, 2016Thank you EVERYONE for all the creative responses. It is actually not our home but just a home that we are seriously considering on purchasing. My husband does not like that shutter thing I suggested wrought iron planters box and he suggested a wrought iron balcony. He seems to think that the shutter is recessed into the brick but I don't think that it is but we have not gotten close enough to it to see. Our appointments to view the house keep getting pushed back because the owners he our appointments to view the house keep getting pushed back because the owners health. We will definitely be adding shutters and I'm thinking charcoal and painting the door the same color Every day I view this website and look for inspiration etc. I never expected so many responses from this community but I appreciate each and everyone that took the time to help me!!Helpful Reply

Dlt2421789 on Aug 11, 2016This tile is throughout the house along with some wood flooring. Tearing the tile up is out of the budget for us but there has to be a way to help update it without throwing rugs all over the place to hide it lolHelpful Reply

861650 on Aug 11, 2016The front door is painted the same unattractive color.Basic decorating rule: You need three colors in a room and/or on the outside of your home. I suggest that both of you look at other homes with similar brick colors. Look at the accent colors such as the doors and the trim around windows. Check out brick homes on "Pinterest," to check out the color combinations. The easiest and most inexpensive thing you can do is paint.Helpful Reply

JoLeen Bolton on Aug 11, 2016Personally, I think that planter boxes at that height would look awkward. I also think that removing it would be a mistake...it adds an architectural touch that, if removed, would leave a huge blank feeling to the house. Try taking this picture to your computer and use your paintbrush to see the different ways of treating this. That way you can see it in different colors, or you can actually make it disappear so you could see if that's what you really want. So many options...I've heard of folks doing this to pick paint colors, trim etc., for their homes.Helpful Reply

Leslie on Aug 11, 2016Ditouchet, if that is a wooden panel it may be held up by construction glue and behind it is brick. You may want to get a carpenter in to check that out. He could also tell you how to remove it if it is glued on. if not there is faux brick that looks like real brick that you can cover in a pattern. It looks like it was added to break up the monotony of the brick. You can also paint it with a scene or some stenciling in more neutral colors OR use copper paint. seal it with Spar Urethane if the piece is wood. If plastic you would have to research. Good LuckHelpful Reply

Sandy Shafer-Prendergast on Aug 12, 2016It has no real function? Other than to draw your attention to the tall part of the house. Like shutters they aren't used but need to be a size to give the impression of being able to close them to cover protect windows. I copied your picture and put it in paint just to see what it would look like. This is a fun way to check out colors and treatments.Video processing...Helpful Reply

Ellis on Aug 13, 2016I would paint it in a color similar or complementary to the bricks. My own home had a similarly prominent panel, painted in two-tone, which served only to highlight this awkward feature. We painted it all one color, the same as the siding around it. It looks much better, and far less obvious. There's no rule that says your front door has to be painted the same color as the decorative panel.Helpful Reply

Miki on Aug 13, 2016I think the best suggestion here is to use brick (real would be best but faux would work, too, just needs to match very well) to cover this in a herringbone pattern or other pattern. That would add architectural interest and cover the problem.Helpful Reply

Crystal Meyer Griffith on Aug 13, 2016Paint it white along with other trim and add white shutters to windows above and below. It would become a nice accent piece. Anything in that particular green color always seems to look ugly. The shutters would be a nice accent touch to your home.Helpful Reply
