Garden, mulch beds, mulch washing away, drainage solution for patio

We had a patio installed last year on the back of my house to replace the old deck, and connected it to my old patio around the pool. One thing the installer should have advised (he did ...»
build what I wanted), but he should have mentioned water run-off. when it rained hard, the mulch would wash out of the bed between the two patios. So I installed metal edging, added gravel. Two hard rains, and no mulch moved. The only water in the bed has to fall directly on it, so it is doing great. I like the metal edging, very easy to install, looks better than the vinyl rolls, I started with that, but ripped it out and returned it, as it looks so bad, plus it would not be strong enough to hold up the gravel/rocks. Plus a added photo of my front garden for others to get ideas, still need to work on the front garden to the right of the steps though, but it's getting there.

I'm new to this site, and decided to post pictures of the things that keep me busy .

I like to garden and love repurposing "anything", like the compass you'll see here that I made from an old concrete septic tank cover. Pics that follow are some of my outdoor projects: ...»
made a bottle tree, a fish pond, grew and dried birdhouse gourds, made raised gardens, painted an old bench, painted rug onto my deck, harvested 40' bamboo, cured them and made a trellis, made a peaceful walking/sitting area in the woods out back. I'm a DYI'er that began as a financial necessity and grew into a passion.......By the way, if you haven't talked to the great people at Four Season Nursery yet, or shopped for mulch, gravel and plants, you're missing an opportunity. They are knowledgeable and dependable. My husband just smiles at me and hates to leave me the truck...he knows I'm going there for a load of something.

  • This is the top to a pedestal table.
  • This is a doll table and chair. I painted it, mosaiced it and covered the chairs with matching fabric. 3
  • This is a birdhouse for indoor decor only. Each side of the roof and all four sides are different, but with the same color scheme. I used a glass compote for the pedestal and then painted some of the etched part and added jewelry.
  • This is a plant stand I mosaiced. This was photographed before I grouted it.
  • This is a silver tray with a Scottish theme. I stayed at a Scottish Bed and Breakfast on vacation and took this project along to work on and finished it in one weekend and left it for the Innkeeper as a token of my appreciation. 2
  • This is a Victorian Woman theme picture frame. I bought all the objects in a box lid at an auction and decided to incorporate them into a mosaiced frame. 1
  • This is a beachcomber theme frame. The inspiration for this was a rubber shark I bought at a St. Vincent De Paul Thrift store. 1

  • This is a plant stand.
  • This table was picked up at an auction for $6. I transformed it. 1

  • This is a vintage sewing table. I painted it, mosaiced it and then added handpainted rose doorknobs. 2

allow the puppies fun places to run and play. Our shar pei are true family members and love to spend their nights "guarding" us.
