Diane on Aug 18, 2016there is a lot of work-decide if you want the inside or outside as Janet said-the inside will give you is what you also figure out how money you have to spend otherwise projects will only get half done and you'll get bored and things will never get doneHelpful Reply

Jolanta Oszurko on Aug 18, 2016If it's as old as it looks, striping it to the bare bones inside may produce some interesting architectural details.Helpful Reply

Danielle Odin on Aug 18, 2016The outside looks like Adobe. This is one of the best insulation you can get. It has such beauty as well. I would start on the inside and get that to a liveable condition.Helpful Reply

William on Aug 18, 2016I would gut the inside first. Repair anything that is structural. Then look at your budget. Start working one room at a time so you don't get overwhelmed. You don't want a bunch of projects all over the place.Helpful Reply

Dianne Goldthorpe on Aug 18, 2016Gut the inside, blow out some walls to enlarge the space, keep in mind some maybe load bearing, , replace and insulate walls and windows as you go and then you can get a feel for the flow of the house. Be careful of electrics and water lines, call 1 800 DIG to get utility companies out to mark out their location. Once you have done all that you will have a better idea of your budget but getting all those big things done will in the long run make life so much easier for you and a great selling advantage. Good luckHelpful Reply

Connie on Aug 18, 2016Clear out the stuff in the inside and decide how you want the layout. Kitchen and bathroom makeovers bring back the most money when you sell. (if you sell) Recycle center can save you alot of money if you can find the right items. The outside does look like adobe and probably a sought after technique. It has a historic look. Try to clean up your landscaping and plant flowers and shrubs if possible to make the old house look refreshed. Good luck!Helpful Reply

Leslie on Aug 19, 2016I would also store whatever is in usable condition to check over later for reuse. You could have some interesting and one of a kind finds in that home. Question everything you decide to get rid of. Is the Icon on the kitchen wall hand painted or is it just paper in a frame. If you have a shed on the property keep all the stuff you keep in there for protection. Adobe is one of the oldest building materials and as someone said a great insulator.. Go slowly and do your research before you do anything or hire someone to do it. Researching "how to" will build your your confidence and skills. Good luck you have a diamond in the rough there.Helpful Reply

Sue c. on Aug 19, 2016What country is this house in? Do you have the skills yourself to do the required upgrades? If you don't have the skills, will the locals be able to do the work the way you want/need it to be done? Are there any building codes you as the owner need to be aware of? This will be a massive job if water has infiltrated the adobe and support framing. Eastern Europe ? I hope you will tell us how the work goes and send pics of the final gem you will have.Helpful Reply
