How do I remove very old paint?

Mac6231 on Aug 21, 2016Old paint probably equals lead paint. I think you should let a professional do it off your premises. Some things are not worth DIY regardless of the cost.Helpful Reply

William on Aug 21, 2016I agree! You can get a lead testing kit at Ace Hardware, Home Depot, Lowes, and Menards to check for lead. If it is lead based paint, have a professional remove it. If is not lead, use Citrisrip to strip off the paint.Helpful Reply

Michele Hall Parrish on Aug 23, 2016Mask off the glass and hardware then sandblast outdoors. wear long sleeves, long pants and a paint respirator. Wipe off dust with a tack cloth or microfiber cloth. If it's old paint just assume it's lead. shake off your blasting clothes and shoes before you go indoors and wash immediately don't contaminate your laundry basketHelpful Reply

Borislava on Aug 24, 2016On such things I used a fluid (more like gel), some kind of paint remover. You simply put it on the wood with brush (gloves, mask etc. - it's not for closed rooms), wait for maybe 15 minutes, and take it off with any kind of sharp knife or skalpel. The rest you can sand carefully, by hand. Good luck :).Helpful Reply
