Redoing a vanity

We would love to redo a worn, I think contractor grade vanity. We want to sell the house and do a redo on the existing vanity instead of replacing it which would involve redoing the tile too. Also any way to change the lights? Thanks so much

You can paint the vanity and medicine cabinet frame one color. I would go with a gloss white. Replace the hardware with brushed nickel finish. The counter top I would paint a granite using a counter top kit, like Rustoleum or Giani. Since the light is part of the medicine cabinet, I would just replace the bulbs with LED bulbs for a cleaner softer light.

Agreed with William. That would be the most inexpensive way to go.

I redid both my bathroom vanities in General Finishes gel stain in dark walnut and love them. You already have so much white, the dark would be a nice contrast. Then you wouldn't need to change the off white top. I also gel stained my medicine cabinets to match. And brushed nickel knobs would look nice, but since your hinges show, you would need to either replace or spray paint them with nickel color.

It looks like you have a slate gray in the tiles under the mirror. I would paint the cabinet that color and put on hinges and knobs in the chrome. That way you wouldn't have to change anything else. That's the cheapest way to go and would bring in a pop of color. Clear bulbs would be more modern and there are lots of styles to choose from.

You could do what I did to the mirror and cabinet drawers. It's a lace painting technique that is easy. http://www.hometalk.com/diy/decorate/mirror/drab-mirror-to-fab-lace-mirror-7723436...

Have you seen the fabric shade treatments for vanity lights? If you go onto Pinterest and do a search for "fabric shades for bathroom vanity lights" you'll see some clever treatments. Some are DIY. Or you can purchase. One seller is from www.vanityshadesofvegas.com I have seen similar shades for sale on Etsy

Hi, Have you taken a look at Gianni's Granite and paint products? Great stuff. A little goes a long way.. Many products to choose from. Everything's in the kit. Best of all, the finish is the sealant used on new cars. And no, I do not work for the company. I'm a retired Deputy Sheriff. I just have great looking kitchen cabinets that withstand everything.

I see a hint of blue in the tile, do you like blue? Since you're selling if you don't want to put alot of work in maybe just paint the vanity and mirror a dark blue and put a shade around the lights like barlerinyc suggested earlier. See the link for the look of a dark blue cabinet. http://www.lansdownelife.com/2010/06/100-bath...
  • You can get a kit that gives you all the tools and instructions that gives your vanity the look of marble or granite. Then I would paint the woodwork. You could easily make a shade from any fabric to go over the lights. I would make one long rectangular shade (like a valance) run wire thru the top and bottom and attach to the sides of the existing light bar. Make sure you leave space between the cover and the bulbs so nothing catches on fire. Upgrade the door knobs and you'll be done!
