Dealing with a dusty wall unit

IFortuna on Aug 24, 2016If it is possible, try to determine the source of the dust and seal that up. If you have carpeting, some kinds will give off dust. Vacuum regularly. I use Orange Glo on just about everything, even my stove top and Japanese lacquer ware. It cleans without leaving any dust at all and helps to preserve the wood. If you are not fond of this idea, I recommend a microfiber duster. They are made for this. You may want to spray the duster with a furniture polish before use. : )Helpful Reply

Julie M on Aug 24, 2016My piano has a finish like that. The salesman suggested that I lightly spray a micro-fiber cloth with water, then dust. Works like a charm.Helpful Reply

B. Enne on Aug 24, 2016I always dust with a damp cloth, and it works for me. If you suspect it is static from electronics, I would dust with a damp cloth, let dry, then rub a fabric softener sheet over the surface. If it is still really bad, maybe you need a finer air filter for your heating/cooling system. Although I have never tried a staticide, maybe it can help too: https://www.amazon.com/AntiStatic-Liquid-32-A...Helpful Reply

Jackie Byrd on Aug 24, 2016Oh my, you are smart. Brilliant! I see that the Quaternary ammonium has a positive ion which will counteract (neutralize) the negative static-electric charge. Or something like that. Water to dilute and alcohol to help with evaporation/drying. Cool. Now I understand why it works. Thanks, Mr. Wizard.Helpful Reply

Jackie Byrd on Aug 24, 2016I'm getting ready to move and I think I'm just going to ask the movers to leave this in the carport at the new place. It won't take long to paint it a lighter color. End of problem!Helpful Reply
