Bought tile squares in a 12' x 12' sheet

The tiles have little pieces of glue (?) holding them together in a sheet. I am separating them to use for a frame on a mirror, but need to get the pieces off first. Can't remove w/o possibly breaking the tiles! Any suggestions? Thanks

Hi, Cathy. Are the little tiles stuck on a backing? Can you flip the entire thing over and cut between the squares with a sharp knife, like a box cutter or an Exacto knife? Just be careful, of course! We don't need any cut fingers.

No they're not on the backing that a lot of them come with. They're connected by little globs of what looks like glue that has been smashed by a machine after application. It's very hard and impossible to scrape off, which is why I'm afraid I'll break the tiles trying. I'm going to try mineral spirits or acetone today. I was just hoping someone might have an easier answer to this problem. Thanks for responding!

I cut mine the size of pot holders & some a bit bigger, then glued felt to the back and made trivets.
