Vintage Trophy Lamp - Can You Help Solve the Mystery?

This 1931 Sterling Silver Golf Trophy was made into a lamp at some point, and discovered in a Texas thrift store for just a few dollars. Do you recognize the emblem? Do you know of an historic golf club that may have hosted an invitation tournament in 1931, at the height of the Great Depression, and awarded a sterling silver trophy to a seventh flight winner? If so, we'd love to hear from you!

Sounds like a great score...silver is running about 23 bucks an ounce these days...I'd sell it for bullion...and proceed with your new found wealth.

Wow Revi, what a neat store to go with a great find. I'd have kept it too and put it on my hubby's desk who is golfing right now. I hope you can find out who won it. Even if it wasn't one of the big names in gold it would still be fun to know.

I'd try to track RGC....... Probably in a big city where there were people who still had money to do these things. Dallas, Ft. Worth, Houston, maybe San Antonio.

RGC could stand for one of a hundred or more golf courses around the world. Literally. The initials are rather art deco in style, which does not help track it down, and may have easily been from somewhere along the east coast. Or even California. It's owner was affluent, so travel was not an issue. It could even be abroad. What is on the bottom of the piece? Is there a hallmark as to the maker? That would be a place to start. You may also find a hallmark in another area of the piece. It would be an amazing piece for the Antiques Road Show. They have the experts on site.

RGC may also NOT be the initials of the golf course. It could stand for the name of a large company that held an event. The emblem around the RGC may give you a clue. Crossed irons with a rose on the top is a symbol for Roseville Golf Course. Get the idea?

Antiques Road Show...now there's a thought! Yes, the recipient of this trophy was definitely someone who led a life of privilege. The trophy was made in Los Angeles, CA, but that wouldn't necessarily mean the golf club was there - it was not a "one of a kind" piece. I have seen at least one more.
