Removing landscaping
Most of what's in the yard is annual. I don't want to use anything that's going to prevent what we plant from growing or thriving, but I definitely don't want it all coming back next year.
We had thought about taking a weed eater to it and then tilling the ground to dig up the roots. Would that work? Any other suggestions?

Catherine Smith on Aug 22, 2013You can dig up the trees and bushes etc. The plants you describe are not the type of things that come back. You also might consider posting an ad in your local paper with the offer to others to come and dig it up, haul it off for free. One person's "trash" being another's "treasure". Some of your stuff may just be what someone else is looking for or wants for their garden. Plus it saves you some labor. Worth a try. LOLHelpful Reply

WaywardWordNerd on Aug 22, 2013Thanks! The hostas I think are annual. We didn't even know we had them until about two dozen popped up in the spring. And we've got some creeping ground cover I'm itching to get rid of, and about a few hundred of these little tree things. I'm not even sure what they are. They look like miniature trees and literally cover every space between what's growing.Helpful Reply

Catherine Smith on Aug 22, 2013Hostas are perennials, but if you dig them up they'll be gone. If you have pictures of the ground cover and little trees, that would help figuring out the best way to make them go away.Helpful Reply

The Garden Frog with C Renee on Aug 22, 2013I would put an ad on craiglist for someone to come dig them up for free. Where I am at there are people looking for free and if you have hosta you will have tons of people responding! as for evergreens, do you have a truck? because when I do a yard, I wrap a chain and pull them out. digging can take forever on certain types LOL. but first put an ad on craiglist. you will find free labor and they will take away too! what a better way to landscape!Helpful Reply

Woodbridge Environmental Tiptophouse.com on Aug 22, 2013When we do that kind of work we take a chain and wrap it around the bottom of the bush did slightly around the root ball area then connect the other end to my truck and pull. They come out quite fast.Helpful Reply
