A few days ago I posted the question about whether or not china hutches are old fashioned. Carri asked me to post a picture. Please give me your opinions. I'm considering placing a picture over the buffet.

    I'd keep it. If you have some knick-knacks you'ld like to show off add a couple of flourecent lights and make a curio cabinet. Or be good to show off small DIY projects you finished. Wires for lighting would go through back where no one would see them. Easy to add a switch, for lights, on the wire.

    Freshen it up with chalk paint or Unicorn SPiT or a combination of these two. http://www.unicornspit.com/pages/directions-o...

    Hi Patti, your hutch is beautiful! Unless it is creating a claustrophobic feeling in the room.... I would definitely keep the top. What is the color scheme/style of your home? or what direction would you like to take it in? I will add numerous pictures that show many options. You can remove the glass for open shelves... replace it with chicken wire for a country feel.... or simply paint it to 'freshen/lighten' it up :-) You can add a subtle detail to the inside either painting it a soft but different color or by adding beadboard to the back of the inside. Or go bold with a brighter color or even a wallpaper pattern. Because you had mention concern about still matching you other wood tone furniture.... I think that something similar to the last picture might work better for you. It would maintain some of the wood tones to match your other pieces. If that is still darker than you had hoped.... I would add the white beadboard to the back of the inside {painted to match the outside}
