Money tree

My son had a money tree shipped to me for my birthday the end of May. It came out of the pot and the roots looked rotten. I followed instructions but it has never come around to being healthy. It's always drooped. I repotted to a larger container but no help there. Sprayed it for bugs. Still the same. I was hoping it would develop new roots. Should I trim off the old stuff? It's outdoors in low light and the leaves are nice and green. Thanks. Ellyn S.

I'm a little confused, Ellyn, because you say your tree has always drooped but also that the leaves are nice and green? Perhaps it's not getting enough water? These really want to be kept moist (but not sit in standing water).

I've been careful and the suggestion was to set it on a tray of pebbles so water could absorb from the bottom, with light watering only on the soil. There are small new leaves that started but they don't develop.

@Ellyn Schroeder It grows in swamps in its native environment. It definitely sounds to me like a water issue.

These plants are popular with Feng Shui! If you're keeping it in shade/low light, then I'm guessing like Doug, not enough water. It doesn't like being cold either.

Well, ok I'll try more water. It's on our deck under the gazebo right now. I really like it, and want it to be healthy. Thanks for the suggestions, I'll let you know what happens. :)

Thanks for the answers, but I'm still hoping for more ideas. It's still the same, but has some leaves turning yellow and dropping off. More suggestions please and thanks!

@Ellyn Schroeder It may need more diffused light! That comes from my friend who grows these for a living. ;)

Not sure what that means or how much. When I have to move it in for the winter what type then? Thanks! :)

@Sia@South 47th Thanks - for now I put it close to the deck lights for soft night light. I am surprised it is so green, the roots are so weak it wants to topple out of the pot. Thinking I'll add more soil. :) E
