Looking for some info on this secretary/desk

Cindy

I was given this piece and asked to "do something" to it. I'd really like to have some information about the piece and I can't find anything.

I believe with just a little refurbishing it could become an awesome bar or if you like guns a wonderful storage cabinet for them and a reloading station. With what appears to be coming down the pike that might actually be the best alternative. Whatever have fun and enjoy the piece. PS: If done properly it could easily bring $750.00 to $1000.00.

Here's what I ended up with. I never did learn anything that would help me with a date of this piece.

If you clean it well, then re-stain it and put on some new knobs/hardware it'll look brand new. PLEASE don't paint it! It's a lovely piece

Thank You Charlotte Wood Eckel I agree that it can be made pretty again. I don't plan on painting but the person it belongs to would like a bit of color on the inside of the desktop and inside the cupboards. I think I will restain it, possibly using 2 colors of stain. Wish I could find some info regarding the age of this piece. Thanks again!!

Maybe some pretty colorful paper on the inside, but cleaning and oiling the wood would make this look stunning.

Thank You Susan. I haven't decided between paper and paint on the inside.

Clean it and oil it. You may not even have to re-stain it. Try Coconut Oil. New knobs also. PLEASE don't paint it or paper it! It's a beautiful and unique piece and appears to be made well and from nice wood.

Congratulations Cindy you did an awesome job of reconditioning a wonderful old piece. I still would have liked to see a conversion to a home bar but hey that's just my preference. It would have been nice to see some crystal wine glasses hanging in the top of the desk and a cool wine rack in the bottom part. Once again nice job.

Thank You John F Edwards...I was thinking coffee bar maybe. But, sadly, it wasn't my piece to "personalize". The owner is loving it and that's all that matters.

That's ok Cindy it was my mistake in thinking you had been given the piece as a gift not just to refinish for them.
