Turning hardwood timber fence pallings into outdoor table - HELP!!!
-
KMS Woodworks on Aug 26, 2013I would start with some 60 or 80 grit In either a small belt sander or a Random orbit. Sanding each timber before assembly. This will allow you to get all of the sides. I would finish up with some 120 to 150 grit. Not much need to go higher for an outdoor project. For protection from the weather I would use a penetrating deck oil. I use Penofin on my outdoor projects, but there are many other decent brands. Not sure what is available to you in Oz. Here is a link with a pic of my picnic table ( this was built from 4 x 6" timbers) http://kmswoodworks.wordpress.com/2010/01/15/built-to-last/Helpful Reply

Jonnie Hammon on Oct 13, 2015The best way, that I know of, is to have the pieces planed. It makes it smoother, and in a more even, level way. You don't want any slight dips, when you use it. That leads to a lot of spills, which defeats the purpose of having a table.Helpful Reply
